Rhodes University • Club Leadership • Governance • Multi‑Sport Management
I was first elected chairperson of the Rhodes University Cricket Club in 2018, stepping into a role that combined team management, club governance, strategic development, and programme rebuilding. Under my leadership, the club re‑established the 1st XI as a competitive side in the Grahamstown Cricket Board A Division, stabilising player pathways and returning Rhodes Cricket to consistent top‑flight performances.
Alongside the flagship side, I also oversaw the growth of the club’s 2nd XI — known as The Shrews — who went on to win the Pineapple Week Tournament C Section in 2019. The rebuild extended beyond results: I created structures that improved recruitment, squad retention and training quality, enabling the Rhodes Internal Premier League to return to a full roster of six teams.
Beyond club competitions, I served as player‑manager for Rhodes University at USSA Cricket (C Section) in 2018, where the team won the national title and earned promotion to USSA Week B. A year earlier, in 2017, I travelled as team manager for the Rhodes University Tennis Team, finishing 5th in South Africa at USSA Tennis.
My governance responsibilities broadened as I was co‑opted onto the Grahamstown Cricket Board as a committee member, recognising the impact of my administrative work at university level. I was also elected Chairperson of the Rhodes University Sports Council, representing the student sporting community at national university sporting bodies and contributing to institution‑wide decision‑making and policy engagement.
Across roles, my focus was on sustainable structures, transparent governance, athlete‑centred planning, and the kind of operational clarity that strengthens both participation and performance — foundations that continue to influence my broader sports administration and consulting work today.

What I can bring to organisations
- Fit‑for‑purpose governance: Constitutions, committee charters, role clarity, selection and safeguarding codes, and meeting cadences that actually get used.
- Operating systems that stick: Season plans, training blocks, match‑day run‑of‑show, selection and communication workflows, and post‑event reviews that drive incremental gains.
- Performance & pathway design: Sensible squad architecture from 1st XI to development sides, criteria for movement between teams, and workload/availability planning.
- Competition & travel readiness: Eligibility control, fixtures management, logistics packs (travel, accommodation, kit, medical), and on‑day role sheets for coaches, captains, scorers, and managers.
- Participation growth mechanics: Internal leagues and formats that pull players in, retain them, and surface new leaders; volunteer pipelines that turn senior players into captains, coaches, and administrators.
- Budgeting & sponsorship basics: Light, transparent budgets, deliverable‑led sponsor packs, and reporting that sustains partner confidence.
- Simple, steady comms: Fixture/results templates, selection notes, and match‑day content flow that strengthen recruitment, retention, and stakeholder buy‑in.
- Issue management playbooks: Calm procedures for injuries, disputes, reschedules, and disciplinary matters—aligned to policy and communicated clearly.
